O’Grady Cup 2022

Paddy O’Grady (Donabate Golf Club’s President 1992-93 and Captain 1972) decided to donate a new trophy ‘The O’Grady Cup’ for Mixed Foursomes competitions between North Dublin Clubs. This competition was to encourage / involve golfers whose handicaps may be outside the range for them to be selected on the club’s premier mixed foursome’s team (The All-Ireland Mixed Foursomes).

The first event got off to a quiet start in 1993 with 8 clubs participating. Over the years the number of participating clubs has increased and continues to grow, reflecting the popularity of the competition. The O’Grady Cup provides not only healthy inter-club competition but also the opportunity to develop and strengthen bonds of friendship between the various clubs and competitors involved.

Donabate Golf Club appreciates the generosity of our esteemed late member Paddy O’Grady for donating this cup and no doubt many friendships and good stories have evolved as clubs have participated in this yearly competition.
